Planning- Location Report

I did not complete a location report as all of my shoots were based inside. I decided that for the brand identity I wanted to create, using blank or coloured backgrounds inside was the best way to achieve this. I carried out my shoots in my living room and in an upstairs room in my house. I used the brighter-lit room for the Moana shoot as the makeup is what I wanted to stand out in the 'Pop' cover, rather than the background of the image.

Audience Research- Collecting Feedback

I obtained feedback from my target audience so that I could see if my magazine covers were fitting my brief. By collecting this feeback- I was also able to make some alterations to my covers that made it more suited to my target demographic, further improving my publications.

Generic Research- Online Ideas

From looking into the different styles of online media as part of cross-media products, I have decided on features that I wish to use in my own online site. I have also discovered features that I feel may not necessarily fit my brief and publication, and hence I will not be using them.

In the case of 'Bella', I liked the bold colour schemes and cohesion with the language used on the print form. I liked the use of pink as I felt that it would allow me to adhere to an obvious convention used often with this genre of publication. I wish to incorporate lots of colourful imagery as this promotes an exciting and visually pleasing aesthetic.

Whilst I think the aesthetic of 'Entertainment Weekly' online was sleek and sophisticated, I wish to promote a more exciting and fun site, as I am trying to target a mass-market. Using lots of imagery and mainstream adverts, I will hopefully ensure that my target readership enjoy navigating my site.

I aim to create a toolbar with tabs on it so that my site is easy-to-navigate, as well as this, a toolbar will allow me to adhere to conventions I have seen throughout my research.

With regards to video content, I aim to include a celebrity interview, as I feel this would provide a sense of cohesion across my products, as well as constructing a representation that is typical of this sort of publication and online site.

Generic Research- 3 Case Studies

From looking into numerous entertainment and gossip-based magazines, I found that whilst some had similar genre conventions, others were very different altogether.
For my close textual analysis I looked at the traditional gossip magazines of 'Bella' and 'best'. I found that in print form these publications were very similar, compared to the sleeker and neater format of 'Entertainment Weekly'. In the creation of my product, I wished to include features of all three of my case studies, with my main focus being on high quality imagery and slightly more culturally important content than that of 'Bella' and 'best'. Due to this, I aimed to use film-based character imagery as used in 'Entertainment Weekly' whilst also trying to include some gossip features as used in 'Bella' and 'best'. I wanted to achieve this in order to appeal to my 16-25 year old mass market, as using these conventions would allow me to widen the appeal of my product to a larger number of possible consumers. By incorporating gossip-features, I wish to attract those intrigued in entertainment based news, whilst also aiming to incorporate more pressing and important cultural issues throughout.
