From looking into numerous entertainment and gossip-based magazines, I found that whilst some had similar genre conventions, others were very different altogether.
For my close textual analysis I looked at the traditional gossip magazines of 'Bella' and 'best'. I found that in print form these publications were very similar, compared to the sleeker and neater format of 'Entertainment Weekly'. In the creation of my product, I wished to include features of all three of my case studies, with my main focus being on high quality imagery and slightly more culturally important content than that of 'Bella' and 'best'. Due to this, I aimed to use film-based character imagery as used in 'Entertainment Weekly' whilst also trying to include some gossip features as used in 'Bella' and 'best'. I wanted to achieve this in order to appeal to my 16-25 year old mass market, as using these conventions would allow me to widen the appeal of my product to a larger number of possible consumers. By incorporating gossip-features, I wish to attract those intrigued in entertainment based news, whilst also aiming to incorporate more pressing and important cultural issues throughout.
